Ganoderma Beginner's Complete Guide
Everything you need before starting Reishi — forms, dosage, quality markers, and sourcing checklist.
Forms Available
Ganoderma is sold as dried whole mushroom, powdered mushroom, hot-water extract, dual-extract (water + alcohol), and spore oil. For general wellness, a hot-water extract standardised to beta-glucans is the most studied form.
Reading the Label
Look for: beta-glucan percentage (≥15–30%), extraction ratio (e.g. 10:1 means 10 kg mushroom → 1 kg extract), absence of mycelium-on-grain (MOG) fillers, and third-party lab reports.
Quality Red Flags
No beta-glucan percentage stated; heavy reliance on mycelium rather than fruiting body; no Certificate of Analysis (CoA); extremely low price; no country of origin.
Starting Dosage
Begin with 500 mg of standardised extract once daily with food. After 2 weeks, increase to twice daily if well tolerated. Avoid taking on an empty stomach initially.
When to Expect Results
Adaptogens are not stimulants — effects accumulate over 4–8 weeks. Track sleep quality, stress response, and energy levels over a 60-day trial for fair assessment.
Safety & Interactions
Generally well-tolerated. Potential interactions with anticoagulants (warfarin, aspirin) and immunosuppressants. Inform your doctor if you take prescription medications.
